I got a notice over a month ago that I had a refund cheque waiting for me at the registrar's office, but I figured if I blew off getting it long enough they'd just apply it to next semester's tuition. Instead, they mailed it to me. I was expecting a lovely twenty dollars or so. I think the last one I got was for the grand total of seven bucks.
One thousand nine hundred thirty-two dollars.
I just sort of stared at it for a while. The hand I was holding it with started to shake a little, and I didn't know whether to put it down or hold onto it.
Pay Amount: $1,932. Staring at me.
I put it down as if I might break it.
I'm not going to tell my family about it, because my mom will want it. Chances are I'll need it to pay bills. I hope it lasts...it's basically a voucher for a year's worth of utilities and food.

That's precisely what I have to try hardest not to spend it on :)
I deducted the appropriate Canadian amount. C=1086 and counting.
